Hello To All Jazz Festival Fans!
Here it is! Central Illinois Jazz Festival #42 – Some Songs Old, Some Songs New, Some Songs Hot, Some Songs Blue – Come Join Our Fun at 42! Produced by the Juvae Jazz Society of Decatur, Illinois.
Scheduled are some of the top bands/musicians on the festival circuit. Bands/musicians you have requested and some new faces that we are sure you will enjoy. It will be held in Decatur, Illinois, at the Decatur Conference Center & Hotel, February 10, 11 & 12, 2017 (the week after Super Bowl). Hotel room reservation and ticket information is included – if you have a problem obtaining a room, please notify the festival director at 217-546-6091 or 217-454-2709 for additional hotel suggestions.
We will again have 4 sessions during the weekend in multiple venues, all under one roof, featuring different styles of music – Dixieland Jazz, Chicago & New Orleans styles, Swing, Ragtime, Zydeco and Gypsy Jazz. On Friday afternoon, we will start with the Patron’s Party (for those purchasing the Patron package) from 2 to 4 p.m. (Note time change) in the MLK/PPG Room complete with free snacks on the tables. The band will be the Dixie Daredevils joined by a guest or two. At 6:30 p.m. we will assemble in Fountain Hall for a gala New Orleans style Umbrella Parade into Holiday Hall. We encourage all fans to bring their decorated umbrellas and join us in the parade. We will offer prizes for the prettiest and most original umbrellas. This will be followed by sessions in Holiday Hall, MLK/PPG, Kirkland Room and in the Sports Zone, where you may have dinner and enjoy the music of various festival or local bands and guest artists. The Sports Zone venue requires a Patron Badge or festival ticket for admission on Friday and Saturday during the festival weekend. Also, on Friday and Saturday evenings a Swing Dance set will take place in Fountain Hall (time TBA). This set proved to be very popular last year and will require no extra ticket – it is part of the festival.
On Saturday morning, music will start at 10 a.m. in Fountain Hall with our Decatur Venue, which is free and open to the public. It will feature award winning Jazz Lab Band I. under the direction of Randy Reyman and Millikin University Little Big Band under the direction of Perry Rask. These bands are from Millikin University’s renowned School of Music. It is one mission of the Juvae Jazz Society to encourage our young musicians. There will also be sessions in Holiday Hall, MLK/PPG & Kirkland Room plus the Sports Zone for a late lunch.
Saturday afternoon will feature a Ragtime Pianorama with most of our fine festival pianists. We will also schedule a Banjorama and other “specialty” sets as well as a Clarinet Clambake featuring our fine clarinetists. In an effort to make the festival more “fan friendly” and provide more music, as last year, there will be NO SATURDAY EVENING DINNER OR DINNER SHOW in Holiday Hall. The hotel will setup an extra buffet and provide more food service for longer periods of time in order that you may have dinner at your convenience. One buffet will be held in J. R.’s Restaurant; music will be scheduled for that venue. This event was very popular last year so the time for this will be increased due to the large crowd. The regular Jam Session will be held Saturday night from midnight until 2 a.m. in the Sports Zone. All musicians are invited to join in the Jam Session!
Sunday will begin with a Jazz Gospel Service at 10 a.m. featuring Red Lehr’s Powerhouse Five with vocalist, Marilyn Keller. This event will be held in Fountain Hall and is free and open to the public. From 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. a Jazz Brunch (with omelet and carving stations) will be held in the MLK/PPG Room with several bands providing entertainment. The brunch is NOT included in the Patron Package; the price will be $20.00 which includes tax and gratuity. After the Gospel Service, sessions will resume in other venues with a Grand Finale in Holiday Hall at 4 p.m.
An order blank for tickets and hotel rooms is included in this flyer as well as on our website www.juvaejazz.com. The full festival band schedule will be available on our website at a later date. Last year we experienced a marked increase in the number of handicap devices being used by fans. It is important that we are made aware of any special needs at the tables. The ticket order blank has a place for this information.
You are cordially invited to join us as we feature “The place to come for Jazz and Fun” at the 42nd Central Illinois Jazz Festival!
